I don't know if any of you all have heard of james taylor. The guy who gave us country road, take me home, to the place i belong. One of America's finest singer songwriters. An institution by himself.
But in anycase, you all have to visit this link. He sings the carol so wonderfully. I wish i could sing like him. Click on the link to link to the song. You need Real Player for it. http://www.npr.org/programs/morning/features/2001/dec/james_taylor/011219.james_taylor.html Why do i like this song? Well, it tells us to forget our troubles and just enjoy the company of our friends. Its not overwhelmingly joyful but its realistic in its depiction of life and the true meaning of christmas. Which is not so much presents but priceless moments of friendship and love. This version was sung for the christmas after september 11. It is such an apt song to bind the wounded nation in unity. I don't know how to say it but i guess the part, Here we are as in olden days, happy golden days of yore. Precious friends who are dear to us, gather near to us once more. is rather beautifully written. Somehow this reminds me of De-Lovely. I am getting the soundtrack from Vic next tues! and i am so going to get the DVD for this movie. It is beautiful. It is De-Lovely as the song would sing. Sigh. The movie speaks volumes and it is a testament to undying love. Read wenshan's blog for a short review. It is really really touching. It is beautiful. It is De-lovely
