Reading a book yesterday. It detailed one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Venice. In my heart, Venice is what i would call one of my favourite cities. In certain aspects it is more beautiful than others. Well, i went there last june and i must say that it is simply one of the highlights of my time in europe.

Well, i have other preferences to other cities too/ London is so modern and yet traditional like a courtly elderly gentleman. Paris is like a huge grand dame with lovely architecture and blazing history. Nice was beautiful because of the lovely mediterranean sea and absolutely azure blue horizon like a young girl decked out stylishly. Barcelona was a joy to run around in somewhat teenagerish.Florence was like a old grandmama with its azure and cosy feel to it and Rome the grandfather and all its antiquities and relics that harken back to an age long gone. Venice is however beyond classification. It is like a haughty queen that rises out of the sea. I don't know how to describe it.

I didn't stay on Venice island though but it was actually a blessing in disguise because i get to see what i would consider one of the most beautiful sights that anybody going into europe can envision. The image of Venice rising from the sea as the boat nears the city. It is absolutely magnificence. In the distance the city itself is barely visible but as you approach it, the domes and spikes of the city draw near and soon enough, the foundations are within sight and the wonder of the city is absolutely majestic. It was nothing short of beautiful.

Venice is a city of canals and it is nothing better than to see Venice on a Sunday when nobody is there. The whole city especially the residential parts are empty and can you imagine having the whole city to yourself to run about and rioting around the various squares and churches and bridges? The sunlight bouncing of the walls of different colours creating various hues of pink and yellow and blue and green. The gondolas gently rock the water with the various ebbs and ripples emanating from barge and bouncing off the walls which protect the buildings from the rising water levels.

The place was so quiet and the bridges so quaint and so lovingly small and beautiful. Venice was an experience not forgotten. The lovely Doge's Palace, St. Mark's Square, The Bell Tower, The Cathedral of St. Mark, Rialto etc. Venice was also the place where i did my most important buys i guess. Got the cube earings and the masks and also many other things which were quite unique. Especially Murano Glass. I cannot forget Venice for it was one of the few times on the trip that i was so enthralled by a city. It was nothing short of lovely. I want to go back to Venice again. The next city i shall talk about will be Rome.
